I was part of the initial team to map out the SkyGenic online software system. SkyGenic is a cloud-based software solution that requires no programming skills, no staff bioinformaticians, no local computing power, and no large reservoirs of storage space.
I connected the user touch points to the technical architecture and attempted to make something very human of something extremely complicated and technical. The designs displayed in my portfolio is by no means the UI design of the platform, but represents high fidelity wireframes and prototypes at the beginner stages of this project.
User experience designers are the mediators of the different ways of being human and interpretations. We bring these different aspects together for an intended audience. Which means we have the empathic ability to understand ways of being that is not inherently “us”.
I had to understand how the system architecture works. So I to put myself in the shoes of these highly complicated and intelligent engineers, and in the shoes of the future users to create process flows. These diagrams intended to merge the “human” with the “code/software system”. I used draw.io to create these diagrams.
I did an extensive competitor analysis. By doing this I got to understand the platform better that I was trying to create, and also make sure that I cater for the user experience issues discovered on these platforms. I was then able to create a much more simplified version of “sitemap” or “information architecture” for this project.
